Byhen

So this is the song that I was talking about in my previous post. Byhen by Wael Kfoury. A Lebanese singer, musician and song writer. Love the melody and the lyrics. Enjoy!
Wael Kfoury – BEHEN

Masak

No plans on my Off today so I decided to Masak. It means “to cook” in Malay.

I am not a great cook. I still have a long way to go. Even my dad is a better cook than me. I took up Food and Nutrition subject during secondary school, aspiring to be a Cook one day. Got into a Hospitality Diploma and went through a Culinary module. Ace it and somewhere down the road, I just lost the interest. Hell’s Kitchen was the cause of it, I thought. (I watch too much haha!) I was not sure if I would be able to withstand while working under pressure in the kitchen.

Lost interest it may seem however, the passion is still there to learn new recipes and improve on my skills. When I was a student, I used to cook quite often because no one’s at home. I would whip out local dish and sometimes, customise old and new recipes to suit my taste bud. Now that I’m working, time is scarce.

As for today, YES! I found the time!

Spent $100 on the groceries. It is the weekday so, Giant Supermarket is less pack. Easier for me to manoeuvre my trolley. But I still prefer Market Place at Tanglin Mall. That place totally feels like a private supermarket for me and also, it is slightly expensive.

Hello Kitchen, we meet again.

After the construction work going on in the kitchen with sugar, spice and everything nice, above is the outcome of today’s Masak.

Presenting… Pan-Fried Salmon Al-Bihin with stir-fry baby tomatoes and mushrooms.

What’s with the name?

Hahaha I’ve been listening to this Arab song by Wael Kfoury – Bihin (He Longs). Came across this song on Youtube, sang by Arab Idol Mohammed Assaf. Thus, I decided to search for the original singer and now, it’s on my playlist. You should give it a try if you a middle-east fan.

So ya, in addition, I long to eat Salmon. So why not? – Pan-fried Salmon Al-Bihin. Just go with it. Hah!

Ingredients.

  1. Salmon (Season it with salt and pepper. Pan-fried to the desired rareness)
  2. Baby tomatoes and mushroom (Stir-fried using the leftover oils from the salmon. Seasoned with salt and pepper)
  3. Sides: Potatoes and baby carrots. (Boiled them to its chewable state)
  4. Wash and dry lettuces.

I like to keep it simple and I know it could have been better. I saw how salmon can be made into more appetising and delicious dish.

Let’s call it a day. I guess this is the last dish I’m cooking before Ramadhan. It is around the corner and it falls on this Sunday. Usually on fasting month, I don’t cook. I just buy from Bazaar.

Oh and happy trying uh. Heh!

Trust.

Crystal.

Once broken, considered sold.

Trust.

Once bitten, twice shy.

It is like a mirror. No matter how many times you fix, the cracks are still visible.

Plenty of cracks I have in this heart because I have been putting my trust on a wrong person some times. Recently, it was a blow. I managed to stand firm on the ground. Although it was minor, the after-effect made me think about it. Questioning where I stand base on loyalty and friendship.

I should have known if my trust my backfire. To be at least prepared and face the music.

Now that it backfired, I could only hope that people forget about it as soon as possible. I do not know how long it will be etched in their memory. As for my trust, it will take forever for me to recover.

To be careful next time – A wise words from a bitten self.

But how could I be careful when in the first place they look so believable in putting your trust on them.

Cobwebs on my blog.

Hello readers,

It’s been 2 months since my last entry and this platform of mine which I swore to make good use of it, has caught cobwebs. Haha! I am terribly sorry for my negligence to maintain this blog. 2 months of disappearance was due to my aging laptop and work-related issue. I guess I am still learning how to balance between work and blogging. Sigh. Nevertheless, I must always remind myself why I started up this platform in the first place. The objectives? –  Well you can refer to this link 🙂 https://dhanniearmanie.wordpress.com/2014/03/04/

Anyway,

Went for Vans Sale at Gulab Building situated on MacPherson Road. Took a cab from Potong Pasir MRT station as I did not know what bus that could take me there. Well, it said on the ad that it open at 10am. Got there at 10.05am and throngs of people were already rushing for their stuff. Luckily for me, it was not a disappointing trip. Bought myself 2 pairs of shoes that caught my eyes. Particularly for Vans, my feet fits size 11. I took the risk on one of the pairs and bought size 10 as it was the last. It was a good sale and both pairs were only SGD39 each. Yeah… why not I buy 2 pairs instead so I cut my shoe spending for the rest of the year. Hah! I need someone to inform me on this kind of sale in the future. Must. Not. Miss. Out.

Good food and great company. Awesome combo! No matter how busy we are, we will always find time to meet and catch up with one another. It don’t matter if it’s over a cup of coffee or even after long tiring day at work. The quality time we had in order to foster stronger friendship matters to us most. At the end of the day, we will be there for one another 🙂

But first, let me take a foodie!

L’Entrée

Caesar Salad with Smoked Salmon

Good food is good. Love the Clam Chowder Soup. Tasty and plenty of clams to fish from the bread-bowl. Crispy bread too. Definitely will come back for more. Impressive Caesar Salad with Smoke Salmon that came in a big bowl. All four of us had our fair share. Salmon… Those “fitches” are happily swimming in my stomach. Yum.

Le Plat Principal

Seafood Platter

Seafood platter was terrific! Calamari, Prawns and Fish. As you can see, we had a lot of greens. That was because we decided not to eat heavy as we might going for supper. So, we thought this was a good choice. And yes, we were not disappointed.

Le Dessert

De Bomb!

The Star of the night! Stunning entrance to our table and what else can I say? This beauty got devoured in less than 8 minutes.

House without a home

What’s the point of having a house but it don’t feel like a home?

In my house, I could not even be my own Me. My personal space and privacy being intruded. I feel out of place. It does not matter if I live in a one room flat as long as I could call that house my home, I will be more than happy. However in this circumstance, it’s far from home. I don’t even have a say in this house. Please bring back my authority that I used to have in this house.

We struggled to own this house. We moved from one place to another, nomads and seeking refuge from our relatives. We have been refused countless times by our relatives when we seek help. No matter how hard life was back then, we have patience in us. Until finally, we settled and moved in to this house.

The hardship we had, doesn’t it serve as reminder for us not to create anymore problems in the future? Yet the problem I’m facing right now is my personal space that has been taken up by “new immigrant”. It’s none other than my step-relative.

I have been tolerating this for 3 months now and I do not know if I could withstand any much longer. I’m bottling up my thoughts and feelings for the sake of everyone in this house. Don’t let me explode…

How can you all not cry while watching this scene? In fact, I flooded my living room. It’s been more than a decade and this is still the best Hindi Movie that I ever watch. Period.

All Of Me.

Recently, the radio keeps on playing this song All Of Me by John Legend. Every station that I tune in, this song will be on air. Yup, I just got drilled… ya alright, Thanks! Nevertheless, the song lyrics are beautiful. Below are some of the beautiful phrases that caught my attention.

  • Your smart mouth and that beautiful mind, drawing me in and kicking me out.
  • This magical mystery ride.
  • My head’s under water but I’m breathing fine. You’re crazy and I’m out of my mind.
  • All of me loves all of you.
  • Your curves and edges and all your perfect imperfections.
  • My only end and my beginning if I’m lose, I’m winning.
  • Even when you’re crying you’re beautiful too
  • Even if the world is beating down on you, I will stick around you through every mood.
  • My downfall, my muse, my worst distraction, my rhythm and blues. You are my everything.
  • Cards on the table, we’re both showing hearts. We risk it all though, it’s hard.

Here are 7 questions that I have answered as truthfully as I could.

  1.      What are some things you feel you do well?

–          “Jack of all trades, master of none” is totally not suitable figure of speech to be put upon me. Frankly as a guy, I don’t even know how to play soccer. Haha I know, shame on me. Oh well, but there’s one thing I feel I do best – Food and Beverage. Over the years, as a Hospitality student, I accumulated experience and skills from the industry. It took a lot of skills to do a Latte Art and I’m proud of it. Being in the service line, interacting with people and knowing them from all walks of life are exciting as you expand your network. Most importantly at the end of the day, you made them smile while they are holding a cup of coffee that you made for them. This gives you a great satisfaction (I know it sounds cliché but the service line open up your perspective. Trust me.)

  1.      What challenges you?

–          Deadlines. F* Up people’s Attitude (Omg I can’t). And I am mostly a challenge to myself. I procrastinate, I am stubborn, impulsive – act now, think later. Slightly self-conscious, insensitive. (Someone needs to bang the gong on me so that these challenges will go back to their hole.) Despite all these, it’s a blessing to build up my strength.

–         I work best with deadlines although I tend to procrastinate. I would say my procrastination level is NEVER the worst because I would still be conscious about the dates. Nearing to the deadline gives me a great sense of urgency thus; I would give my 101% focus to finish what I’m doing and fine tuning it excessively.

–         Being stubborn is good… Because it gives you the drive to get what you want. I know what I want and I will get what I want. I don’t care about what you say because this is what I want and I know it is for my own good. I am sorry if I hurt your feelings while getting what I want. Then, you should get out of my way. Fair enough? (Other than this, I am very nice, nice person. Teehee 🙂 )

  1.      What do you like to do for fun?

JUST FOR FUN, then I would love to sing. I sing when I am happy, crazy and bored but not when I am sad. Just let the tears do the singing. I have a group of cousins who we hang out and hit the Karaoke Box together and let loose with our croaking voice. Who gives a shit! Clap your hands if you feel like happiness is the truth~

  1.      Who do you look up to?

–         People with beautiful personality are my source of inspiration. I look up to them because if they can do it, I don’t see why I can’t. The recent Oscar winner is new to my list of beautiful people – Lupita Nyong’o. Her Oscar speech blew me off, “…may it remind me, and every little child, that no matter where you are from, your dreams are valid.” This, my readers, is the most inspiring thing to say on national television. Dear Lupita, you are one of my beautiful people I would love to meet someday. I would love to take a selfie with you. 🙂

  1.      What’s something you’ve always wanted to try?

–         BAKING! Even if there’s plenty of time in the world for me to bake, I will not have patience for it. They said Guys who bake scores. Sorry ladies, I don’t bake but I cook. I whip out a beautiful dish for your hunger pangs. Heh! I am in the midst of saving up to buy cake mixer and my parents are fixing up the oven at home. Hopefully, everything is ready by the month of Ramadhan.

  1.      What’s your favourite class?

–         Class, you mean school class? Oh ok. Definitely, Humanities class. Back in secondary school, students will dread this subject as it was a chore to absorb the content in it and wasting their time to understand the world’s history. I was the opposite. I had great and inspiring teachers for both of my Geography and Social Studies class. I enjoyed these classes because firstly, the world interests me from its physical and human aspect. Secondly, the more you read about the subject, the more you will find it interesting and each concept is interconnected to one another. Lastly, these subjects gave me a great platform this think as an individual, how can I contribute to the society. I had fun with all the school trips that the Humanities Department organised. My Geography teacher influenced me greatly to pursue my study in that subject. So probably, I can share my knowledge with the next generation.

  1.      What do you read about in your free time?

–         Currently, I am reading about the Gods and Goddesses of Olympus. Yes…No… Interesting… I look up in the internet, mostly, to read up on this. HBO keep on playing Wrath of The Titan and it moved me to read about the various Gods, Demi-Gods and other stuff. Slightly confuse because I am also a fan of Percy Jackson. So, Perseus in Wrath of the Titan is the son of Zeus while in Percy Jackson, he is the son of Poseidon. I was like, huh? Nevertheless, both of these are interesting read. Other serious read in my free time would be a book called The Advocates’ Devil by Walter C M .Woon. It’s a Singapore Fiction genre. Great to know about the environment of ancient Singapore. The life of a lawyer and his adventures makes quite interesting. Although the English is quite complex, it’s overall a good read.
